Baignoire

The Cartier Baignoire — French for "bathtub" — is one of the brand's most distinctive and historically evocative case shapes, an oval form whose long axis runs vertically on the wrist, creating an unmistakably elegant and feminine silhouette. The Baignoire's origins trace to the early twentieth century, with the shape appearing in Cartier's archives from the 1950s in bijou watch form before its commercial development in the 1970s and 1980s. The case's curved, elongated oval is almost entirely covered by the bezel, leaving a small, jewel-like dial visible at the center — a design that prioritizes aesthetic impact over dial legibility in a way that is entirely appropriate for a jewelry watch. The Baignoire has been produced in yellow gold, white gold, and with extensive gem settings including full diamond pavé cases and bracelets. Pre-owned Baignoire references are sought by collectors who appreciate Cartier's most purely artistic expressions, particularly vintage examples in yellow gold from the 1960s and 1970s. The Baignoire Allongée, an even more elongated variant, is among the most striking of all Cartier case shapes. DeMesy & Co. in Dallas has been a trusted source for pre-owned Cartier Baignoire references since 1987.
