GMT-Master

The Rolex GMT-Master was born from a partnership with Pan American World Airways in the 1950s, purpose-built to allow intercontinental pilots to track two time zones simultaneously via a 24-hour hand and a bidirectional bezel. The original ref. 6542 debuted in 1954 with a Bakelite bezel insert, followed by the aluminum-insert ref. 1675, which remained in production through the late 1970s and is now among the most admired vintage Rolex references. The GMT-Master II, introduced in 1983, allowed independent setting of the local hour hand, a functional leap that made it the preferred travel watch of global professionals. Key pre-owned references include the 16710, 116710LN, 116710BLNR, and the current-generation 126710BLRO and 126710BLNR. The two-tone "Rootbeer" and "Coke" variants of the 16713 and 16710 remain perennial favorites among collectors. Two-tone, full gold, and steel configurations span a wide range of price points on the secondary market, making the GMT-Master one of the most versatile pre-owned Rolex categories. DeMesy & Co. has authenticated and sold pre-owned GMT-Master watches from its Dallas location since 1987.
