Tank Française

The Cartier Tank Française, introduced in 1996, is a distinctively modern interpretation of the Tank concept, replacing the traditional strap or deployant bracelet with an integrated steel or gold bracelet whose links echo the rectangular geometry of the case in a continuous, flowing design. The Française was a significant commercial and aesthetic success for Cartier, particularly in the late 1990s and 2000s, when its integrated bracelet design resonated with the decade's taste for bold, bracelet-integrated luxury sports watches. Available in steel, yellow gold, white gold, and two-tone combinations, the Tank Française was produced in multiple case sizes serving both women's and men's markets. Pre-owned references including the W51011Q3, W50011S3, and the large steel automatic are among the most commonly traded examples. The Française received a Manufacture movement option in its later production years, adding to its collectibility. Quartz-movement versions in steel represent some of the most accessible entry points into pre-owned Cartier ownership. The model's architectural bracelet ages beautifully in polished steel, and pre-owned examples are plentiful enough to offer buyers considerable choice in condition and configuration. DeMesy & Co. in Dallas has been a source for pre-owned Tank Française references since 1987.
