Yacht-Master

The Rolex Yacht-Master launched in 1992 as a luxurious interpretation of the sport watch aesthetic, bridging the gap between the utilitarian Submariner and the dress-oriented Datejust. Rather than targeting professional divers, the Yacht-Master was conceived as an aspirational nautical watch for sailing enthusiasts and lifestyle-driven collectors. Its rotatable bezel — raised and polished on the hour markers, in contrast to the Submariner's matte insert — along with its Mercedes hands and bold luminous indices gave it a distinctly upscale character. The Yacht-Master has been produced in 40 mm, 37 mm, and 42 mm (Yacht-Master II) sizes, in Oystersteel, Everose gold, white gold, yellow gold, and the striking two-tone Rolesor configuration. Pre-owned references including the 16623, 116621, and the platinum-bezel 116622 are perennial secondary market favorites. The Yacht-Master II, ref. 116688, adds a mechanical regatta countdown function. Rolex's use of its proprietary 904L Oystersteel ensures corrosion resistance that holds up beautifully in the pre-owned market. DeMesy & Co. in Dallas has been sourcing and authenticating pre-owned Yacht-Master references for collectors since 1987.
